Biography

Children: Pieter (Nov 2 1698), Kniert (Nov 26 1702), Marij (May 2 1706, married Cornelis Maartensz Swiep), Pieter (May 13 1708), Trijn (Aug 31 1710, married Nanne Maartensz Groot), an unnamed stillborn baby (Aug 26 1714).

It’s another case of being married with or on the same day as 2 other couples. These multiple marriages seemed to happen a lot in Andijk: months go by with no marriages and suddenly 3 or 4 on the same day.

Simon Jacobsz and his wife Marij Pieters made profession of faith in the Buurtjeskerk in Andijk on February 7 1700. They are listed as now living in 't Buurtje, but coming from Onderdijk and transferring membership from the Wervershoof church. Sijmen Jacobse and Mary Pieters are listed on the Buurtjeskerk membership list of 1723 as living in het Buurtje. It's not certain that Simon kept using the last name Schaep since it is only recorded in his baptism record.

There was only one Sijmen baptized in Andijk before 1678: a Sijmen Cornelisz. Not our Sijmen, even though he lived in Andijk when he was married. Our Sijmen showed up in Wervershoof baptism records instead. He must have been working as a farm hand in Andijk when he was married. His youngest brother must have inherited the family estate in Wervershoof. That seems to have been a pattern at this time.

Sijmen and Marij died on the same day. It makes one wonder what tragedy happened. They were buried by Nanne Maartensz Swiep, the brother-in-law of their daughter Marij.
