I got your message and I understand your wariness of anything free. I also understand your objection to holding public information hostage, as do all the people here. Wikitree was founded by genealogists for other genealogists (of all levels) to share the information that they had. We have some pretty amazing family histories here, histories that took people a life time and a fortune to compile.

One way we differ from the other sites is that we are going to allow only one profile per person and if more than one exists we work diligently to merge them into one. This is a shared tree and collaboration is the cornerstone of our site so please keep that in mind.

Also, our GEDCOM process is different that other sites. The Help Pages give lots of information about the process starting with: 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.

I think we are like minded so I am going to confirm you as a member, if you do not wish to contribute you may simply remove your email address from your profile and your account will be considered closed, you may even anonymize it.

I may be a little thick but so far I just don't get it - maybe I am too new to family trees. I'll puddle along trying to read all the help files and perhaps things will get better!
