Martha (age 23) married David Rakes on 31 May 1884 in Virginia, United States.[1]
Birth date is per Commonwealth of Virginia marriage license where Martha Ellen Janney married my g-grandfather David Rakes and her sister, Mary Ann Rakes, married David's brother Charles Rakes Jr. on 05-31-1884, Reverend Asa N. Short presiding. Charles H. and Julia Ann [Jones' Rakes are listed as the parents of the grooms, John and Malinda [Hale] Janney are listed as the parents of the brides.
Died from pneumonia after a hiatal hernia operation. Married David Rakes, son of Charles H. Rakes Jr. and Julia Ann Jones Rakes on 05-31-1884. David Rakes was killed in a mining accident in about 1904 and she married Edward Rice in about 1908. By the Monroe County Census of 1920 she had either separated from or had divorced Edward Rice.
