Maria Adelina Montoya died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at the Sombrillo Nursing Home in Los Alamos.
Mrs. Montoya celebrated her 100th birthday last August with friends and family. She was born in Los Ancones, NM, Aug. 8, 1908 to Antonio Isa Jaramillo and Maria Magdalena Gallegos.
She grew up in Los Ancones, raised by her paternal grandmother, Vivianita Jaramillo and helped in raising her younger siblings, Melaquias, Felicita, and Samuel.
Mrs. Montoya married Eliseo Montoya, La Madera, in 1936. They had three children, Joel, Magdalena and Gloria. Mrs. Montoya enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She was a skilled seamstress and she could make any outfit or dress just by viewing the illustration rather than using a pattern.
Throughout her adult life she was an active member in her church of Nuestra SeƱora de Guadalupe in La Madera and her parish of San Juan Nepomuceno Church in El Rito.
Mrs. Montoya was preceded in death by her mother and father, her infant sister, Teresina Jaramillo; her husband, her infant children, Joel and Gloria Montoya; her brother, Melaquias Jaramillo, La Madera; brother, Samuel Jaramillo, Ojo Caliente, and sister, Felicita Jaramillo, La Madera.
Surviving her is her daughter, Magdalena Jaramillo, Santa Fe, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She also had many special friends and family.
A rosary was recited Jan. 23 in the Oratorio in La Madera. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 24, also at the Oratorio in La Madera. Burial followed at La Madera Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Joel Jaramillo, Jerry A. Vasquez, Alfonso Jaramillo III, James Jaramillo, Jerry Vasquez Sr. and Max Montoya. Honorary pallbearers are James Jaramillo Jr. and Julian Gallegos.
