Benjamin Glidden Washburn was married in Illinois to Sally Jefferson and his first born child, Julydia Washburn, a daughter, was born January 1837. They moved to Iowa and had two sons, Jedediah Jefferson Washburn born in February 1839/40 in Illinois, and then another son, Simon Washburn was born in 1842 in Iowa. Simon was named after his grandfather, Simon Washburn. Sally died in childbirth while delivering Simon or shortly after, during 1842, while the family lived in Iowa.
