Martha (Patsy) Jenkins was born about 1760, probably in Bertie, North Carolina. She was the daughter of James and Mary Jenkins who appear in the 1757 Bertie Tax List. She is identified as daughter Martha Williford in her father's 1797 Estate Division.[1]
She married Abner Williford about 1780 in Bertie, North Carolina.
Abner Williford died in 1812. His will names his wife Patsy and his children (Bk F, p.214-17). Of special note, it also provides for four years of continued education for his youngest children including his sons John and Abner, and daughter Christian.[2] Additionally, from his estate records we learn the following: [3]
Son Abner Jr died before his father's estate settlement was complete. His siblings are named as his legatees for his portion.[4]
24 Sep 1818 Peyton Dunning received payment of Richard Williford “guardian for my wife Millicent…”[5]
1 Feb 1819 Christian Williford now the wife of Randolph Rawls received payment from her guardian Richard Williford.[6]
15 Dec 1823 John Williford received full payment from his guardian Richard Williford.[7]Note: this implies he was born about 1802
