Zoe E. Heimann
Zoe E. Heimann, 97 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at North Park Place Senior Living.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City with Rev. Matthew Miller and Rev. Elise Neal officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakview Cemetery in Albia, IA. Visitation with the family will be the hour prior to the service at the church. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is handling arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Zoe Elizabeth was born August 13, 1912 in Albia, Iowa the daughter of George Allen and Zora Belle (Cramer) Jenkins. She grew up in Albia then graduated an Associates of Arts Degree from Stevens College in Columbia, MO. She received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa. She returned to Albia where she taught school for four years.
On September 7, 1938 she was united in marriage to Verne R. Heimann in Albia. Prior to making their home in Sioux City in 1948 the couple lived in St. Louis, MO, Knoxville, TN, Paris, TX, Chicago, IL, and Albia. Verne died January 6, 2000 in Sioux City.
Zoe was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday school. She was also a Cub Scout leader and worked with the Girl Scouts. She was a member of PEO, served as past president of the Woodbury County Medical Auxiliary, a member of Questers Antique Club, American Girls Study Club and the Sioux City Country Club. Zoe enjoyed golfing and wintering in Florida with her husband.
She is survived by three children: Mary E. Linn and her husband, Jim, of Coralville, IA; Dr. G. Allen Heimann and his wife, Dr. Margaret C. Allan, of Windsor, Ontario; Dr. William J. Heimann and his wife, Carol, of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren: Kate Brandel and her husband, Jeff, Rebecca Passavant and her husband, Mark, Dr. Matthew W. Allan, Kathy Manson and her husband, Patrick, and Margaret Heimann; two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Brandel and Sean Brandel; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Dr. G. Dewayne Jenkins, her sisters Margaret Bovenmyer and Aileen Pabst, and a nephew, Dr. Mark Pabst.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, 11435 Cronhill Drive, Owings Mills, MD 21117-2220.
