A Big Colt—W. H. Jenkins, of Poyner township, had a colt in town the other day that is hard to beat. It was five months old on the 10th of this month and a week ago last Saturday weighed 700 lbs. It was sired by Whitney’s draft horse Pakalet, and we have seen many yearlings that would not weigh as much by 200 lbs. If any of our citizens can show a bigger cold of this age, Mr. Jenkins wants him trotted out.

W. H. Jenkins, while coming out of the side door at Grace M. E. church last Friday evening, Stumbled and feel against J. L. cooley’s fence. He was quite badly hurt and was confined to his bed several days.

Nov. 15, 1888 Thursday

DIED--W. H. Jenkins died at his home on Logan Avenue last night after a painful illness of about three months duration of cancer of the stomach and liver. Deceased wa born in the village of Ellington, Chautauqua County, New York, and was about 57 years of age. He came west with his parents, settling near Waukesah, Wis., where he was married to Miss Jane Lindsay, and shortly afterwards removed to Waterloo, where he has resided for almost thirty years. His wife and eight children survive. Deceased was well and favorably known, and his bereaved family have the sympathy of all.

The funeral Sunday was largely attended, and the church was crowded with sympathizing friends of the family. The Rev. H. D. Brown, of Spencer, Iowa, Preached an eloquent sermon and pain a splendid tribute to the life and character of deceased, whom he had known from boyhood.
