Biography

Reginald was a Friend (Quaker)

Sarah Jenkins who married Jonathan Nason was daughter of Reginald Jenkins born 1608; he was in the employ of John Winter at Richmond island; his wife's Christian name was Ann; they probably were Quakers [1]

Reynold/Reginald Jenkins was born in about 1608. His birthplace is unconfirmed. Some uncited sources suggest he may have been born in Dartmouth, Devon, England. He came to New England about 1634, and served with John Winter at Richmond's Island between 1634-37. He married Ann _______ about 1647. He died in 1683.[2] Another source reports that he arrived with John Winter March 2, 1632-3.[3]

He was in Kittery (Eliot), Maine, in 1647.[4]

In 1650, Reynold bought a house in Eliot, Maine, from John Newgrove. His wife was Ann; children were Jabez, Philadelphia, Mary, Sarah and Stephen.[3]

Some publications say Reynold was in the service of John Winter at Richmond Island from 1634 to 1639 and his wife's name was Ann. However one publication states the following; Reginald, yeoman, one of the fishermen at Richmond Island in 1637; settled at Kittery; took oath of allegiance to Massachusetts government, 16 No. 1652.[5]

Reynold may not have come to America until May 1636.[citation needed] In Libby's Genealogical Dictionary it shows that the ship Agnes arrived 34? May 1636 at Trelawny Plantation, Richmond Island and Sparwink (afterwards, Falmouth and now Cape Elizabeth). Included in the list of persons arriving was one Reignold Jenkins. This may be an phonetic spelling of either Reginald or Reynold.[citation needed]

Disputed Origins

There is no evidence to support that this Reynold Jenkins was the son of Edward Jenkins and Joan (Unknown) Jenkins. He may actually have been the son of Reginald Jenkins who was in Dorchester in 1630, and was killed by the Indians in Cape Porpus in 1632.[6]

As such, these unproven parents are being removed from his profile.

A Reynold Jenkins married Anne Gale in 1635 at Broomfield, Somerset, England, June 29, 1635. There is no information to support that this marriage is for this Reynold. Further, if he did marry then, his wife would have remained in England while he was at Richmond Isle between 1636-1639.[4] All quality sources found for this Reynold Jenkins say that Anne's last name was unknown.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Reginald by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Reginald:
