Magdalen Jenkins was born on December 4, 1825, in Cardiganshire, Wales, to Jane Jones and James Jenkins. ^[1]

On December 20, 1825, Magdalen was baptized at Llangeitho or Gwynfil Calvinistic Methodist Church in Llanddewi-Brefi, Cardiganshire, Wales. ^[1]

Magdalen is presumed to have been named after her deceased elder sister Magdalene, who had died either in infancy or in early childhood. ^[2]
