According to all the census records, William Henry Jenkins was a farmer.
First Marriage and Family
On the 2nd of June 1880, William was still living with his father, Abner Jenkins, and working on the farm at David Magee Mill in Washington Parish.[3] Not long after the census, William married Pherbia Alice Corkern. From the 1900 census and the birthdate of their first child, it appears that they married sometime between 1880 and 1882.[4] William and Pherbia Alice had at least 15 children:
Jerry Milton Jenkins (25 Mar 1880 - 28 Sep 1890)[5][4]
Louis Adnell Jenkins (25 Dec 1884-16 Aug 1933)[6][4]
Mary Beatrice Jenkins (18 Oct 1885-11 Mar 1964)[4][7]
William Carley Jenkins (18 Mar 1888-17 Jan 1934)[4][8]
John Leslie Jenkins (19 Sep 1891-13 Jun 1926)[4][9]
Ethel Lucinda Jenkins (14 Oct 1893-7 Jul 1967)[4][10][11]
Milton Emile Jenkins (8 Aug 1894-7 Jul 1960)[12][4][11]
David Harvey Jenkins (12 Feb 1898-14 Nov 1969)[15][4][11]
Myford Henry Jenkins (31 Dec 1900- 19 May 1975)[16][11][14]
Lillie Clotelle Jenkins (13 Dec 1902-20 Mar 1971)[17][11][14]
Charlie Monroe Jenkins (7 Dec 1903-13 Aug 1986) [18][11][14]
Daniel Leander Jenkins (19 Dec 1907-18 Feb 1908)[19]
Dora Jenkins Crockett (6 Oct 1910-7 Jul 1959)[14][20]
Willie Catherine Jenkins (14 Jun 1913-14 Jun 1979)[14][21]
William's wife, Pherbia Alice, died some time between 1920 and 1926. The exact date is somewhat unclear.
Her tombstone has a death date that Find A Grave reads as 22 Aug 1926[22], however, in the opinion of Mary Jensen the last digit looks more like a 3 or 8 than a 6. It definitely does not look like the 6 in 1862 in the line above on the same stone.
An entry in the Era-Leader newspaper of Washington Parish contains an entry on 2 Sep 1920 reading:
Mrs. W.H. Jenkins died 8-24 and was buried in the Corkern home burying ground. Survivors are her husband and 13 children.[23]
On the 2 Sep 1920, 13 of Pherbia Alice Corkern Jenkins' 15 children were still alive with her first child having died at 10 years old in 1890 and an infant having died in 1908. The tombstone on Find A Grave was found in the Corkern Cemetery #2 in Washington Parish.
An entry in the Era-Leader newspaper of Washington Parish contains an entry on 12 Jan 1922 stating that a marriage license has been issued for W. H. Jenkins and Nancy Corkern.[24]
Second Marriage
By the time of the 1930 census, William H. Jenkins had clearly remarried as his wife is listed as Nancy C. Jenkins, age 65. From the other data in the census, it appears that this was a second marriage for both of them.[25]. Given the newspaper articles cited above, it appears most likely that they had married in 1922 after the death of William's first wife in 1920.
Death and Burial
William Henry Jenkins died the 6 Jul 1931 in Washington Parish, Louisiana.[1] He is buried in Corkern Cemetery #2 off of Smith Wallace Rd (Parish Road 133) in Washington Parish near Franklinton.[2]

Hi Mary my Mother’s aunt Dorothy E Jenkins Varnado is the child of David Harvey Jenkins listed as a child on this profile.
Just thought I would share my notes with you. I don’t have sources so... maybe ignore if they don’t pan out.
I have Pvt. J P Corkern married to Anastasia S. Fisher 1790 then to Pherbe Magee by 1850 living in St Tammany Parish.
I have their children as:
John Clark Corkern b. 1822 d. 1827
Abner B. Corkern b. 1816 d.1865
Sarah b. 1812 d. 1861
Wm J. b. 1810 d. 1870
Mary E. b. 1809 d.1870
I also have Anastasia father as John Fisher buried Corkern Cem.
Abner married Mary Bennett and divorced her in 1854.
I have more but will try to get on computer to private message to you.
Gigi
Hi Gigi. Thank you for this information. I believe it to be mostly correct except that I think your information conflates James Pickney Corkern with his father James Bickham Corkern. James Bickham Corkren (1788-1838) was married to Phereba Magee. Their son James Pickney Corkern (1827-1892) was married to Anastasia Fisher. Most of the sources for this family have been collected over on Family Search, but they do not all have profiles on Wikitree yet. You can start exploring with James Bickham Corkern (KL64-NZW) (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KL64-NZW) and explore from there. When you see stuff on Family Search marked MJ45, that is stuff I've been collecting and sorting out over there. These are connections on my mother's side that I hope to be working on during the Connect a Thon next month. Will you be working on the Connect a Thon?
