Biography

Charles was the son of Mary and Charles Jennings.

Marriages

Charles married first Elizabeth Naylor (relict of Worlich Westwood), daughter of William Naylor in 1702.[1]

He married secondly Jane (possibly Latimer) who is said to be the mother of Charles Junior.[2]

He married third, Hannah Chandler (this was her fouth marriage) about 1737.[3]

Land Ownership

He obtained a certificate from the court for 300 acres on account of having imported into the country six persons, viz., Charles Jenings, Mary Jenings, John Stanbury, Charles Jenings, Charles Ball and Lewis, a negro.

Occupation

He succeeded his father as clerk, but in 1720 he was removed by Gov. Spotswood, and Henry Irwin was made clerk.[4]

Per Tyler's Quarterly: “(3) Charles Jennings, II. (1680-1747), married three times- Elizabeth Naylor-Westwood (married in 1702); Jane Latimer (mother of John and other children), daughter of Edward Latimer (see his will); Hannah Chandler, Chandler, Armistead, Hawkins (married in 1736). Issue (5) Charles Jennings, III., executor of his father’s will 1748; (6) John Jennings, born between 1702 and 1736, died after 1785 in N.C.; (7) Thomas Jennings, left will probated in 1794, left descendants (see his will); (8) Mary Jennings (no record); (9) Ann Jennings (no record).” p467-468

Jennings-7572 and Jennings-1291 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! These profiles share a wife (Jane Latimer) and text for Jennings-1291 shows he's in Elizabeth City, which Jennings-7572 shows as his birth place. Death date is just a year off.
