Biography

Charles was born in 1826 in Page County (Shenandoah/Rockingham), Virginia. He moved out West in the early 1850s living for a short time in Oregon, then later to White Cloud and by 1870 to Kansas where he did some farming. In 1872 he moved to Joplin, in Jasper County, Missouri and operated a grocery store on Main Street. ^[1] He then moved to Pittsburgh, Kansas, Wyandotte, Kansas, and then to Kanopolis where he took charge of a hotel.
