Melissa Luella Jennings was born March 12, 1851 in Indiana. She was the daughter of James Jennings and his wife Almira Riley Barnard Jennings.

The Tipton Advertiser Cedar County Pioneer Dies at Wilton Home Wilton, Ia. - July 25--Mrs. Melissa Adams, 73 years of age, widow of George Adams, died at 1:30 o'clock this morning at her home seven miles northwest of Wilton. She was born in Indiana, March 12, 1851, and was the daughter of James and Alma Jennings. Mrs. Adams came to Cedar county with her parents when two years of age and has resided in the county since. She was united in marriage with George Adams, Jan. 23, 1873. He preceded her in death in 1894. Surviving are one son, Charles, five sisters, Mrs. G. Wilkerson of Iowa City; Mrs. Eunice Carney, Mrs. Helena Adams, Mrs. Charles Piper and Mrs. Vernon Walter sr., all of Cedar county, and two brothers, Frank of Cedar county, and Arthur of Tipton. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Trinity Reformed church of Cedar county, near Wilton. 31 July 1924 -
