Biography

Mary Jerome, born about 1739 at Wallingford, Connecticut, was a daughter of Zerubbabel Jerome (1715-1783) and his second wife Phoebe (Cook) Jerome (1714-abt.1790). She probably was a namesake for her earlier (1737) born half-sibling who died in infancy.

She married 12 Oct 1758 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut, Joseph Spencer, with whom she had at least 2 children.

According to the only reference source yet available, "...the Spencers moved to central New York state, settled in Onondaga, Onondaga County... Mary and Joseph's names do not appear on the 1830 census ... they most likely died in Onondaga County before the June 1830 census." [1].

Jerome-355 and Jerome-117 appear to represent the same person because: Both represent the spouse of Joseph Spencer. Birth date estimate 1739 should be retained during the merge.

Jerome-355 and Jerome-117 are not ready to be merged because: Birth dates are estimated for both, but very different. Was she the first child of Zerubbabel and Phoebe (who married in August 1738, or the last? Could we look for more documentation or clues before making the final merge?
Well, she wouldn't have been their first child named Mary because according to her bio, the earlier one (born in 1737) died infancy. So, this second Mary would have been a namesake for the first. Probably she born about 1739, which makes sense not only in terms of namesake sequence but in view of her own marriage in 1758. If either profile manager can refine her birth date estimate that would be good. Meanwhile, both profiles represent the same person, which is obviously not a tenable situation. I think the merge should proceed.

I'm the manager for Jerome-117, and I've approved the merge. It will happen when the manager of Jerome-355 approves it. Sorry, I missed the marriage date of 1758.

The first Mary was the daughter of Zerubbabel's first wife, Sarah Cook. We don't have a birthdate for her, but a reasonable guess might be that Sarah died in childbirth, and her baby died also. Phoebe Cook was Sarah's sister, and I believe she was the mother of all of Zerubbabel's surviving children.

Jerome-355 and Jerome-117 appear to represent the same person because: Both represent the wife of Joseph Spencer, who also is duplicated.
