Eva joined her older sister Ellen in Canada. They worked together in the General Store in Decker, Manitoba. At the time, Ellen was single and pleased that a gentleman of some means had come into town and she was keen on him. To Ellen's surprise, he off and eloped with her beautiful younger sister, Eva. Although this affected the closeness between the two sisters, we descendants are fascinated by the stories of the lives of both Eva and Ellen.[4]
