Ephraim Jewell was born in Stow, Massachusetts in 1760 to Silas and Mary Jewell.
At the commencement of the Revolutionary War, he was residing in Marlborough, MA until he moved to St. Albans, Vermont in 1802.
He served in the Revolutionary War; he volunteered in August 1777 and "marched with the company to which he belonged under the command of Captain William Morse and Lieutenant Barber to Hopgood and to Bennington, Vermont and thence to the neighborhood of Saratoga where they joined General Gates' army and remained there till after the surrender of General Burgoyne ... Soon after the troops arrived in Charlestown, he and his fellow soldiers were dismissed the last of November 1777 ... That again at Marlborough, on or about the 15th of August in 1779, he enlisted for three months under Captain Cranston of Marlborough and Lieutenant Wetherbee of Stow and marched from Marlborough to Worcester, from thence he was ordered to Cloverick, NY ... but before the troops arrived at Cloverick .. they were ordered to the ... of the Mohawk River and were stationed there until the end of November."
Ephraim Jewell married Rebecca Brigham, daughter of Captain William Brigham and Rebecca Ball Brigham, 27 February 1781 at Marlborough, Massachusetts. The couple had children - among them Hollis, Ephraim, Willard, Samuel, Lydia Ball, Martha, William, Ira, and Euretta Jewell.
Sometime in the mid 1830s, Ephraim accompanied his children to Lake County, Ohio and resided there until his death.
Ephraim Jewell died in Kirtland, Lake County, Ohio - perhaps Newbury Center, Geauga, Ohio - 13 July 1845 at 84 years of age. He was buried in the South Newbury Cemetery, Newbury Center, Ohio.
