Biography

Ann "Buddie" Jewell was born in 1833,[1] the daughter of Daniel Jewell and his wife Clarissa Cox.

In 1850, 17 year old Ann J. (indexed as "F") Jewell, lived in Durham, Strafford, New Hampshire, with her father, Daniel Jewell, a woodturner, mother Clara S. Jewell, and 3 siblings.[2]

Ann Jewell and George O. Durrell were married about 1851 at Newmarket, Rockingham, New Hampshire.[3]

She passed away in 1916 and is buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredonia, Chautauqua County, New York.[1] You can see a picture of her gravestone at FindAGrave.

The Dunkirk Evening Observer carried the following obituary for Ann:[4]

"Old Resident of Dunkirk Is Dead
"Mrs. George O. Durrell Passed Away Wednesday Night After Several Weeks' Illness

"Mrs. Ann Jane Durrell, wife of George O. Durrell, died at the family residence, 129 Maple avenue Wednesday evening, aged 83 and six months. She had been in poor health a long time and seriously ill for the past four weeks. Mrs. Durrell was born in New Market, N. H., but had been a resident of Dunkirk for the past 59 years, having come here soon after her marriage.

"She was a devoted member of the First M. E. Church and was highly respected by those who knew her as one who lived a conscientious Christian life.

"Besides her husband, she is survived by four children: D. Jewell Durrell of Cincinnati, O., Henry A. Durrell of 71 Ruggles street and John N. Durrell of 103 East Seventh street and Mrs. Nellie Ball of 129 Maple avenue, this city, two sisters, Mrs. Frances Woodman of New York city and Mrs. Martha Archibald of Washington, D. C., also 12 grandchildren and sixteen great grand children. The funeral will be held at the home, 129 Maple avenue Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Dr. F. S. Neigh, pastor of the M. E. Church officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery."
