Biography

Isabella Edith May Jewell aka Edythe Isobel Jewell was born on 16 Oct 1887 in Mariposa, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada to Henry William Jewell and Alice Amelia (Sedgewick) Jewell.^[1]

In 1891 Eda Jewell (age 3) lived in Mariposa with her father Henery (41 [~49], Farmer), mother Alice (26), and sister Violet (6).^[2]

Edith's father passed away in early 1901.

In 1901 Edith Jewell (age 15[13]) lived in Lindsay, Victoria County with her mother Alice (34) and two sisters: Violet (15) and Rosamond (9).^[3]

Edith Isabelle Jewell (age 22, Spinster, residing in Peterboro, daughter of Henry Jewell & Alice Sedgwick) married George Joseph Johnson (age 22, Printer, Bachelor, residing in Peterboro, son of George Johnson & Margaret Neelis) on 19 May 1910 in Peterborough, Ontario.^[4]

1. George Garfield "Garry" Johnson (1910-1961)
2. Victor Jewell Johnson (1912-1966)

In 1911 Edith Johnson (age 24) lived at 157 Dallas St in Peterborough with her husband Geo J (24, Operator Linotype) and son George (1).^[5]

In 1921 Edith Johnsson (age 33) lived at 157 Dallas in Peterborough City with her husband George (33, Printer) and two sons: Garfield (10) and Victor (9), as well as her father-in-law George (60, Lumberman?).^[6]

Edith and George divorced on 28 Jan 1932 in Toronto.^[7]

Edith married Arthur Brown between 1932 and 1936.

Edith Brown passed away on 15 Nov 1936 at South Western Hospital in Toronto - she was 49 years old, her date of birth was 13 [16] Oct [1887]; she had been in Ontario all her life and in Toronto for 8 years; her usual residence was 200 Ellsworth Ave; her husband was Arthur Brown; her father was Henry Jewell, born in Ontario [England]; her mother was Alice Sedgwick, birthplace unknown [Ontario]; cause of death was diabetes.^[8]

She is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto - the inscription reads: "In Loving Memory of EDYTHE I JEWELL died Nov 16 1936 Beloved Mother of VICTOR and GARRY JOHNSON At Rest."^[9]
