Biography

Research Notes

Very little information has been found on Mary Jewell Stover. Primary sources proving parentage have not been located as of 1/14/18. She appears to have been born in Cornwall, Connecticut on July 12, 1743, to Joshua and Mary Jewell. [1] Other records have her as the daughter of William Juel and Elizabeth Buckhout Juel, or Abraham Juel and Sarah Buckhout Juel.

The US and Canada Passenger and Immigration Lists show 2 entries for a Mary Jewell who arrived in Virginia in 1759. If this were the same Mary, she would have been about 16 years old at arrival. This may or may not be the same person. [2]. [3]

Records indicate Mary Jewell was married to Jeremiah Stover, year unknown. Profile says 1745 but this would not make sense if she was born in 1743. They are both buried in Hunting Creek Cemetery, Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina, USA. [4]

For some reason FindAGrave, Family Tree Search, and family trees on Ancestry.com have her born in 1745 in Botetourt County, Virginia, and not Connecticut. Why is this?

Oldest child appears to be Jacob Stover born in 1763 so marriage probably 1761 or 1762.
