Email from relative: " James M Jewell is the brother of my gggrandfather William Wallace Jewell. Their parents are James B Jewell (Jr) and Harriet Carleton who were married 28 Jan 1855 in White River, Ottawa County, Michigan. The source for this is the book, Record of Marriages, No 3, Ottawa Co, Michigan, found at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. (It might be on-line on FamilySearch.org by now. I haven't looked.) The 1870 census of Wyoming Twp, Kent County, Michigan shows the family: James Jewell (40) living with Harriet Jewell (36) and children William W (11), Lydia R (9), George C (4) and James M (6/12) on a farm. This census can be found on Heritage Quest or Ancestry.com. Once you get into the censuses you will be able to find James B Jewell (Sr) with his second wife Margaret Harmon. He also had a first wife, Ruth P Taylor who died in Michigan 9 Aug 1839 per the tombstone in the Boynton Cemetery in Byron Township, Kent Co, MI. There are also lots of land records in Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon Counties of Michigan for the two James Jewells. Harriet Carleton is the daughter of Moses Carleton and Lydia Angel who lived in St Clair County, Michigan beginning in about 1842. They had moved from Herkimer County, New York."
