Benjamin came to Industry (Maine) from Shapleigh in the month of March, 1800, hauling his goods and family on a sled drawn by four oxen. The Androscoggin River was crossed on the ice below the falls at Lewiston. At that time the only building in the two cities of Lewiston and Auburn was a small mill on the Auburn side of the river. He settled on the east slope of Bannock Hill, on the land occupied by Aholiab Nichols in 1886.
