Dr. Jewett was a graduate of Colby College and of Bowdoin Medical College in 1850. He was Assistant Surgeon of 3d Maine Regiment of Infantry, during the Civil War; was wounded at Fredericksburg and taken prisoner, but meeting the Colonel of the 41st Georgia Regt., he found him to be an old friend whom he had known when residing in the South, and through the kindness of this friend he was placed in a hospital, where he was taken care of and finally paroled.
