Dr. Jewett graduated from Brown University in the class of 1891, with the degree of A. B., and from the Medical Department of Harvard College in the class of 1895, with the degree of M. D., after which he studied in Europe. He settled in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where he followed his profession and was Assistant Surgeon of the Massachusetts Volunteer MiIilitia.
Having decided to give up the practice of medicine in 1902, he went to Europe for the second time, and after a year spent in travel and study, returned to the United States and spent two years in studying library economy at the New York State Library. In 1906 he was called to be Librarian of the State University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
