Biography

Amalia Johannesdotter was born on July 3, 1869 at Hallorsbyn in Dalskog parish Älvsborg län, Sweden on the family estate.[1] She lived her with her parents here at least through 1875.[2][3]

She went to Norway to help run her sisters' coffee shop in Oslo and married Oscar Mo\ller, a sea captain and settled in Svelvik, Norway. They were members of a religious community that immigrated to the USA in 1900 and settled first in Milwaukee and then moved to the farm on Cherry Lane in Mattoon where Oscar worked in the lumber mill. They had three children: Esther, Harry Arthur, and Stanley. In 1919, she went to St. Paul with the children and ran a boarding house with her youngest brother. She returned to Mattoon when Harry A. married Hilda. She was active in the community worship and well known and loved by the community in Mattoon, and popular with the kids as she could be counted on to have hot cocoa ready after they went skating, according to the caretaker at the cemetery where she was buried when I came for my father's burial in April 1991. [He had been a friend of Stanley when they were growing up]. I have one memory of her, when we visited her at the farm on Cherry Lane in 1959. Å malia passed away about 1963 in Wittenberg, Shawno County, Wisconsin. [4]

In my "Genealogical Research through March 30, 1990", I have Amalia's birthplace as Hammel, Dalskog, , Sweden.
