Per Johansson was born on April 10, 1870 in Östraby, Malmöhus, Sweden. His parents were Johan Svensson and Elna Jönsdotter.

His father died when he was 23 years old, by then he had been residing in the United States for 6 years, possibly Minneapolis where he emigrated to in 1887. At the time he was 17 years old.

It is likely that he lived with or at least visited his older brother Nils who had made the same trip across the Atlantic a year earlier. No one know what happened to Per after he left Sweden. It is known that Nils had contact with one of his many brothers after they came to America, but different lifestyle choices had made a rift between the brothers and they lost contact. Which brother it was is currently unknown.

Per died sometime after 1887 in the United States.
