Biography

Peter Johnson, called a 'Dutchman, ^[1] lived at "Boston before 1638, when Richard Rawlings was permitted to buy the house that was his." ^[2]

Peter Johnson removed from Boston to Fairfield ^[1], possibly after the sale of his house in Boston in 1638. ^[2]

Peter Johnson married Elizabeth (Unknown) about 1640 - location unknown (possibly Fairfield). His eldest child is estimated to have been born before 1641, ^[2] birth location for children unknown, possibly Fairfield.

Peter Johnson died before 1650, when his widow Elizabeth was in prison, where a child was born to her. ^[2] The child was named Benoni Newton, and his father Thomas Newton escaped from jail and fled. ^[2] Benoni was to have five pounds legacy from the sale of his father's property. ^[2]

Peter Johnson's estate was ordered distributed to 'the mother and children' 1654/5. ^[2]

Elizabeth (Unknown) Johnson married second John Fossecar, by 12 Aug 1659 when Fossecar gave bond for the small legacies to due to Moses and Ebenezer (still underage in 1659), from their brother John's estate distribution. ^[2]

Disputed Parents

Donald Lines Jacobus in 1930 in Families of Old Fairfield, Vol 1, page 339, and Robert Charles Anderson in 2015 in The Great Migration Directory page 186 both write that the origins of Peter Johnson are unknown.

Thomas Johnson and Mary (Baldwin) Johnson are not parents of Peter Johnson.
