Robert Johnson was born about 1748 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to Lazarus Johnson and Mary Outland. He first married Sylvia Hargrave between 24 December, 1768 and 28 January, 1769 [1]. Robert and Sylvia had two children, Abel and Martha in 1770 and 1771, respectively. Sylvia must have died between 1771 and 1788, when Robert had another son, Laban by a second wife, Patience Johnson.
Robert died aged about 41 in 1789 the year after his son Laban was born, leaving a will that mentions his father Lazarus, his wife Patience, his daughter Martha and his sons, Abel and Laban[2][3]
