Marcus Finger (Mack) "MF" Johnson was born on October 12, 1875 in Campobello Spartanburg County, South Carolina, the son of James B. Johnson and Candice A. (Finger) Johnson. He was named after his mother's brother Marcus P. Finger. Mack was the brother of Joseph E. Johnson, Mary E. (Johnson) Pope, Albert C. Johnson, Walter E. Johnson and Ida M. Johnson.
By 1890, Mack's father had died and he was living with his mother and sister, Ida. They had taken in a border, Simon Parris age 23.[1] By 1910, he was still caring for his mother but had married and had a house full of children.[2]
Mack married Mamie L. Harmon before 1900 in Spartanburg County. They had the following children:

Paul K. Johnson,
Lloyd H. Johnson,
Roy Johnson,
Troy Johnson,
Alvin W. Johnson,
Marcus F. Johnson Jr,
Infant Johnson died at birth
Mack was registered for WWI.[3] He did not serve, probably because he was a farmer. His registration cards describe him as a short, stout man with grey eyes and black hair.
Mack and Mammie, helped to found Gramling Methodist Church, now Gramling United Methodist, in Gramling, South Carolina. After it was built and the cemetery laid out, Mack went with his sons to Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery, disinterred his father, JB, and reburied him in their new family church. [4][5]
Mack was one of the Peach Pioneers of South Carolina. He is pictures here third from right.

Mack died on September 1, 1936 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States.[6]
Obituary
M. F. Johnson died May 21, 1936 in a local hospital after a illness of several days. He was 52 years of age at his passing. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Lenora Harmon Johnson, one sister, Miss Ida Johnson, the following children: Mrs. Ruth Lancaster, Paul K., Loyd, Alvin, Troy, Roy and M. F. Johnson, Jr.[7]
