Elizabeth (Johnson) Perpall is part of a Bahamian family.

Biography

Elizabeth Sarah Johnson was born, 15 April 1815, in Nassau, Bahamas to William John Petty Johnson and Elizabeth Mary Thompson Johnson 15 April 1815.

She married John Henry Perpall, son of John Perpall and Margaret Bell Perpall, 25 November 1834, at Christ Church, Nassau. The couple had children Elizabeth Sarah, Marion Sophia, Caroline Mary, Freeman Turner, John Henry, Florence Emily, Ernest Augustus, Aubrey William Johnson, Charles Clarence, Ella Blanche, Alexander Edward and Edward Alexander, twins, and Frederick Augustus Perpall.

JH Perpall was a shopkeeper/merchant. He had a store that sold foodstuffs, in the 1860s, located on the corner of Frederick and Shirley Streets. Mr. Perpall also owned a shop in Rum Cay, Bahamas for many years; his son, Clarence Charles, was born there. He was also approved to conduct estate inventories for the probate court.

John Henry Perpall died in the early morning of 27 November 1875 in Nassau, Bahamas. He was 65 years of age.

Elizabeth Perpall moved to Brooklyn, New York after John's death. Her oldest surviving sons, Ernest Augustus and Aubrey William Johnson, had moved to New York in preceding years. She appeared in the 1880 US Federal Census residing on Eleventh Street with children Laura, Marion, Edward Alexander and Alexander Edward Perpall.

She died in Brooklyn, New York in 1888 at 72 years of age and is buried in Green-Wood Cemetery.
