Biography

Ann Johnson was listed as one of the heirs of Jesse Johnson listed in a Lawrence County, Kentucky deed 1837 regarding 50 acres of land Jesse patented on Blain Creek.[1]

NOTES from Family Search Pedigree Resource File[2] When William Boggs was a young boy his father moved the family back to Lawrence County, Kentucky, about the year 1820, where William attained manhood. It was here on 5 September 1828 that William married Ann Johnson, daughter of Jesse Johnson Sr., and his wife, Anne Stanfield, who were from Wilkes County, North Carolina, but were married in Green County, Tennessee, 12 December 1796, and who were early immigrants to Lawrence County, Kentucky.

William and Ann Johnson Boggs lived in Lawrence County until after the birth of their fourth child. Sometime between 1838 and 1840, they moved back to the locale of William's birthplace, and lived to see that portion of Lee County become the new county of Wise in 1856.

After returning to Lee County, Virginia, William and Ann Johnson Boggs carved out a homesite on a spur of the Big Black Mountain known today as Cane Patch. Their land was located above that which was known then as the Big Lick, sometimes called the King's Lick. Here the remainder of their children were born, grew up, and most of them married while living here. They saw the dark days of the Civil War begin, roll on and cease before their second emigration to Lawrence County, Kentucky, sometime around 1867 or 1869.

When they again returned to Lawrence County, Kentucky they lived on the left fork of Caines Creek on a farm later owned by Peter and Margaret Sparks.

William and Ann are buried in the "Hen" Boggs Cemetery and their double tombstone reads:

William Boggs
Born June 6 1811
Died January 15 1871
Ann Boggs
Born 1 January 1 1812
Died February 1 1885
Were married 1829 (NOTE: The marriage of 1829 is assumed to be in error according to the marriage date from the records of Lawrence County, Kentucky, unless they waited several months to get married after obtaining a marriage bond, which would have been unusual.)
