Martha was the daughter of Richard and Nancy Ann (Kelly) Johnson, and the sister of Emaline, John, George Ann, and Amos Henry. She married Preston French around 1879. He was a farmer in Estill County, Kentucky. Their children were Richard, Ethel, Flemon, and Nannie. Martha died in 1888, a few months after the birth of Nannie. She is buried in Kindred Cemetery in Estill County.
