Obituary

Death of Mrs. E. H. Taylor, Jr.

"The sad news of the death of this cultivated and popular lady which occurred at 2 o'clock a.m., spread over our city on Saturday morning carrying with it more than ordinary sorrow.

"Mrs. Fanny Johnson Taylor was the daughter of the late Mr. W. Stapleton Johnson, and was about 65 years of age. She was, before ill-health claimed her, a very handsome woman, and was beloved by all who knew her for her many admirable qualities.

"December 21, 1851, she was married to Col. E. H. Taylor, Jr.

"In early girlhood Mrs.Taylor united with the Methodist Church, and consistently and earnestly strove to do her duty in all the relations of life.

"After the death of her own father, her mother was united in marriage to the lamented Jacob Swigert, Esq., and Mrs. Taylor was as fondly and sincerely loved by her stepfather as if she had been his own daughter.

"She leaves a husband, four daughters (Mrs. J. Lampton Price, Mrs. R. W. Kline, Mrs. Phythian Saffell and Miss Maggie) and three sons (Messrs. J. Swigert, Kenner and Edmund W.), of her immediate family; one sister (Mrs. James Gill, of Shelby County), one brother (Mr. W.S. Johnson, of this city), and three half brothers (Capt. Jacob, Major Sam'l M. and Mr. Joseph, Swigert), and a host of other friends to mourn her death. For a long time she had been in bad health and death came as a welcome release from suffering.

"The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. T.F. Taliaferro, from the Methodist Church, on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, and were largely attended, evidencing the high esteem in which this modest, retiring and lovely lady was held. The remains were deposited in the family lot in our cemetery.

"The tenderest sympathy of many warmly attached friends is extended to the bereaved ones." Source: Frankfort Roundabout, Saturday 15 October 1898
