Biography

James Jules Johnson was born in 1813 in Virginia, United States. He married Mary J. Maloy on March 22, 1836 in Greeneville, Greene County, Tennessee, United States. They had the following children: [1]

  1. David Crockett Johnston,
  2. John T. Johnston,
  3. James A. Johnston,
  4. William Johnston and
  5. Martha E. (Johnston) Allen

The 1850 Census indicates that he was a trader by profession and owned property worth $1000.00.

James died September 27, 1889 and was buried at Johnston Family Cemetery in Greene County Tennessee, USA.[2]

Will of James Johnston: James Johnston- To be buried by the Masonic Fraternity of Greene County. To wife, Eliza H Johnston and to my son, James Johnston-equally share and share alike all my property of every kind, real, personal and mixed except the Bridgeport and Mill property. To my daughter, Bettie Allen wife of William Allen-$500.00 paid by my wife and son James. To grand-daughter, Eliza Woodson-$500.00. To Grandchildren, James Johnston, Mary Blakemore, Retta Leach and Maggie Johnston, the son and daughters of decd. son, Crockett Johnston- all real estate in Cock County, Tennessee known as the Bridgeport Mill Property-divided between them equally. I have given my son-in-law, David Russell, and his children and to my son, John F. Johnston, their full share. To John Dugan - a horse, saddle, and bridle, if he remains with me and my wife until his father needs him and is a good and obedient boy.
