Robert Henry Johnson was born on 8 Apr 1920 in Walker, Alabama, United States, son of Robert Hayes Johnson (1898 - 1956) and Mabel L (Elliott) Johnson (1901 - 1989).

His sister was Mary Lucille (Johnson) Pate (1922 - 1981).

He married Estelle Penry 13 Jul 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi.

Robert died on 8 Mar 1974 in Denver, Colorado aged 53. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Walker County, Alabama.
