As on that day, August 11, 1910, not quite a year ago, when the sudden passing of John F. Pierce was announced, the people of this community were greatly shocked, so also did the death of his widow, Mrs. Alice R. Pierce, come with a shock to her many friends.
Mrs. Pierce was born on July 20 1854, and died suddenly on July 3rd, 1911, from apoplexy. She was united in marriage with John F. Pierce on January 18, 1874 (other sources show Nov 18), and was a pioneer of southeast Clay township. Her parents located in the timber on the homestead where she died, and here a farm was "cleared" and added to and they became known as among our most prosperous class of farmers. Here they reared a family, eight children being born to them all of whom are living, namely: Chas S., Rockport, Lon J., Pittsburg, Pa; Mrs. Geneva A. Vogel, of Valentine, NE: Venus V. of Pittsburg; Pa.; Zane F. and Reno M., of Rockport; Mrs. Charlotte M. Raubach, of Valentine, NE., and Sallie V., of Rockport.
Funeral services were held at the home on July 5th, conducted by Elder D. M. Phillippi. The remains were laid to rest in Hunter cemetery by the side of those of her husband and parents.
Mrs. Pierce was a faithful and fond mother. Well may her children cherish her memory as a precious legacy, and we would point them to the promise. "At eventide it shall be light."
Alice is buried next to John towards the bottom of the hill. Her parents and grandfather are buried at the top of the hill. (so not next to each other)
(apoplexy unconsciousness or incapacity resulting from a cerebral hemorrhage or stroke.)
Death Certificate says Alice died of heat stroke.

Hi, Susan, I know that you were trying to figure out where Alice's father Daniel was from. I have formatted her profile a bit and added some sources. You may want to try looking for his birth in Indiana. Her death record and all the census that I have found except one state her father was from Indiana. Only one has Kentucky and that was probably an error. The sources I added have share links so you will be able to view the images.
Actually, it is the 1880 and her death record that both have Indiana. You may want to try looking there. There was a lot of movement between Kentucky and Indiana by family's back then.
