Dr. Charles Nelson Johnson, born in 1860 on a farm in Brock Township, Canada West (Ontario), was the son of Winthrop Johnson and Laura Moore. After graduating from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Toronto, he practiced in Collingwood, Ontario, until 1884. He and his wife Fannie moved to Chicago, Illinois, where their two daughters were born.
In 1890 he became head of the department of Operative Dentistry at the Chicago College of Dental Surgery. He also served as editor of several dental journals and wrote numerous articles throughout his career.[1]
