DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
I've been looking at these, and comparing them with the family tree on FamilySearch and the sources. Based on Mary Ellen (Johnson) Madge's marriage record, her mother was Harriet Ellis, therefore the Samuel Johnson who married Harriet Ellis should be her father, not her brother. And according to the FamilySearch tree, her brother Samuel married Hannah Morden and not Harriet Ellis. The Canada censuses (1861-1871) also show Harriet as wife of the Samuel who should be Mary Ellen's father. Therefore I have removed the second brother Samuel Johnson of Mary Ellen - who's profile has him married to Harriet Ellis, and with the wrong birth & death dates - and am merging it with the profile of Mary Ellen's father, which currently has no spouse. Fingers crossed this is all right!
