Biography

Alafare Johnson was born 10 March 1870.

In the 1880 Census she resided with her grandparents Merritt Johnson and Rhoda Adkins in Cabell County, West Virginia.[1]

She married Andrew J. Adkins about 1887. A marriage record has not been found but the marriage is confirmed by census records and vital records of their children. The 1920 census record has this couple living in separate homes but by the 1930 census record they are living together again. Alafare's death certificate states her father was General Johnson and mother DK (sic don't know) Adkins. "General" was a nickname for Francis Marion Johnson who was named for the Revolutionary War General Francis Marion.

Andrew and Alafair had 13 children.

Hi Jeanette, While working on the Johnson family I think I figured out Alafair's parents. Her father was Francis Marion Johnson, also known as "General" and her mother was Spicey Adkins who died in 1871 shortly after Alafair's birth.
