Irene was the daughter of Dick Johnson (born Wales) and Hattie Shaw. She was brought up in Teeswater and Toronto. Her grandfather, father, and uncles worked on the railway. Irene married Ernest O. Hewitt Jun 2, 1909 in Toronto. Ernest was the son of James Hewitt (born in Ireland) and Isabelle Gowdy. In 1910 they were living on North Ashland Ave in Chicago ILL. In 1921 they are living at 134 Ivy Ave in Toronto with two small children, Richard J. and Hattie I. Ernest died in 1941.
