Biography

Clyde Beatrice Johnson was born on October 5, 1892 in Savannah, Georgia.[1] She was the second daughter of nine children of Susan Caroline (Pinckney) and William Benjamin Johnson.[1] [2][3]

Clyde married Arnold Alton Zipperer on February 15, 1914, in Yemassee, South Carolina.[1] Arnold Zipperer was the brother of Israel Hezekiah Zipperer who married Clyde's sister, Agnes Coe Johnson. Clyde and Arnold lived in first Beaufort, South Carolina where Arnold was the manager for a farm.[4] His brother, Israel, worked for him as a farm laborer after WWI and before he married Clyde's sister, Agnes Coe Johnson.[5][4] Clyde and Arnold had 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys.[1] Their youngest child, Doris Johnson Zipperer only lived about 4 months.[6] In the 1930 census, Clyde's brother Charles Johnson lived with the family in Yemassee.[7] In the 1940 census, Clyde's father, William Benjamin Johnson lived with the family.[8]

Clyde and her sisters regularly got together to put up fruits and vegetables or met up for family reunions.[9] They would laugh so much that it became an cherished memory of John Zipperer.[9]

Clyde died on August 12, 1981 in Savannah, Georgia.[1] [10] She is buried in Ebenezer Cemetery in Yemassee, South Carolina.[1][11]
