Biography

Born 1858 in Illinois [1]

Adam was born in 1858. Adam Johnson married Elizabeth Haefele on March 26, 1879.[2]

They lived in Burnt Prairie, White County, Illinois and had three daughters: Lillian, Margaret, and Camille Marie; and two sons John Haefele and Herbert Adam Johnson.[3]

He passed away in January 11, 1919.[4]

Findagrave.com lists Adam Johnson as Adam Johnston, because his two daughters Margaret and Marie decided their last name should have been Johnston. Family stories vary as to why, but because Margaret and Marie bought the tombstones for their parents, and sister Lillian, these markers as well as Margaret's spell surname as Johnston. Marie's tombstone lists her as Marie J. under Vaught, her husband's surname. The brothers John and Herbert Johnson's tombstones are labeled Johnson.[5]
