S.Y. Johnston departed this life Feb. 21, 1901; was born in the state of Georgia and went with his parents to Alabama when he was a boy.
There he lived and was married to Miss Lucinda Gray, whose brother died a short time ago at Crews.
Mr. Johnston came from Alabama to Texas in 1891, and here lived until his death. While he served as county commissioner 2 years, he was a Methodist preacher 18 years before his death.
He made his church a good member as well as minister. His remains were laid to rest in Winters cemetery Feb. 23.
He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss, and leaves a host of friends.
