Annie (Johnston) Phoenix was born in Ireland.

Anna Eliza Johnston was born about 1831 in Ireland. [1] She came to Canada in 1838 with her parents, William and Maria Johnston. The family settled in Mono township, Simcoe, Canada West in 1845. Annie married John Phenix (or Phoenix). Two of her children died very young, Elizabeth (1853-1853) and Maria (1861-1864). [2]

She died 11 September 1871 in Mono Centre, Dufferin, Ontario. [3] John recorded in his diary "I have now the pausful and sad task to perform of recording poor Mrs. Phenix's death. She fell asleep in Jesus about 8 [3?] o'clock this evening. Mrs. Park & S. Phenix sat up with her & said she rested well all night & conversed with them near morning. When I asked her if she was any better (in the morning) she said she felt __ier. I believe these were about the last words she spoke to me or anyone else. Her mother was by her from the morning and" [diary page cropped in copying] She was buried 13 September in Burns Cemetery, Mono Centre. " To day, Oh sad to record, we committed poor Ann Elizas body to its las (sic) resting but with the sure hope of it rising again to a glorious and better life to reggn with her Saiviour ( sic) for ever and ever. Rev A. Lewis preached from Second Corinthians 5th & 10th For we must all appear before the judgment Seat of Christ that we may all recieve for the things done in the boddy ( sic) whether they be good or bad. Rev's Christie, Lundy, McKay, and professor McKerras of Queens College Kingston were present, May God grant to sanctify this sore dispensation of this divine providence to the salvation of all our souls and may we all meet with her arround the blood-washed Throne to hurt no more for ever and ever for the Redeemers sake amen."
