Joseph Howard Johnston was born 12 July 1885 in Whittington, Dufferin, Ontario, Canada. [1] He was baptised 28 September 1885 in Camilla, Ontario. [2] Joe went to Kenora, Ontario where he worked for Fyfe Hardware Company and later became a hardware manager. [3] He Joseph was a commercial traveller when he married Muriel McArthur on 15 June 1914 in Port Arthur, Thunder Bay, Ontario. [4]
By 1916, they were living on his brother Samuel's farm 1 mile south east of Rosetown, Saskatchewan. [5] The location of Joe and Muriel's farm was described in 1921 as "sec 6, twp 30 range 14 West of the 3rd meridian" in St Andrews, Saskatchewan. Joe was found 16 April 1931 drowned in a ditch at the CNR crossing 1 mile North home. He appeared to have fallen after filling his water tank. No inquest was held. The funeral was held in Rosetown United Church with interment in Rosetown Cemetery on 20 April 1931. [6] [7]
