Early Life

Mary (Johnston) Fry was born in Virginia.

Mary Ann Johnston was the daughter of David Johnston and Nancy Ann Abbott. She was born sometime before 1781 (assuming she was at least 18 when she married),^[1] likely in Culpeper County, where her family lived. She was the youngest of eight children.

Her father, David, passed away in 1786. Her mother then remarried to George Fry I in 1787.

Marriage and Children

Mary married George Fry III on January 21, 1799 in Montgomery County, Virginia.^[1] Her new husband George was the grandson of her late stepfather, George Fry I. Her mother granted permission for the marriage sometime before the wedding.^[2]

Mary Ann and George had at least 7 children together, all of whom were born in Giles County:

James Fry (1800-aft. 1870 in Wayne Co. WV), married Priscilla Adkins
David Fry, (1801-1885 in Wayne Co. WV), married Christina Rachel Adkins^[3]

Death

Mary Ann passed away sometime before April 1817, when her husband George remarried to a woman named Polly Clear.^[4]
