In 1901, James and Matilda were living in Ross Township, Renfrew County, Ontario[2], with their four children (Thomas, Samuel, Mary, and Sophia), as well as his parents, James and Nancy.
In 1911 the family was living in the Village of Foresters Falls, located in Ross Township, Renfrew County[3].
Thomas married Annie Lavallee in 1917[4]. Their marriage record reads:
Thomas Johnston, 23, residing in Renfrew, born in Foresters Falls, bachelor, farmer, son of James Johnston and Tillie Bradley, married
Annie Lavallee, 19, residing and born in Foresters Falls, spinster, daughter of James Lavallee and Jane Robinson,
Witnesses: Mary E. Johnston, Cobden, and Arthur Lavallee, Foresters Falls,
On the 2nd of October, 1917, at Queens Line, Ross Township, Renfrew County, Ontario.
In 1921, Thomas and Annie were living in Westmeath Township, Renfrew County, Ontario[5]. They had one son, Ellsworth, aged 1.
In 1931, Thomas and Annie were living at 231 Hincks Street, Pembroke, Ontario[6], with their son, Ellsworth, and several lodgers.
Ellsworth died in 1935[7], after accidentally shooting himself with his rifle.
Thomas died on April 17, 1975[8] and was buried at Howard Cemetery, in Foresters Falls, Ontario[9].
He was survived by his wife, Annie Elizabeth Lavallee, and brothers Samuel, of Cobden, John, of Ottawa, and Holt, of Foresters Falls.
Annie died on September 3, 1980[10]. She was survived by her sister Martha (Mrs. William Robinson), Pembroke, her brother Oliver, of Queen's Line, and her brother John, of Beachburg.
