Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth J. Langham, aged nearly 75 years, widow of Joseph L. Langham, both natives of Grant Township, died suddenly at her home in Washington, D.C. on August 24, with heart trouble, caused by rheumatism from which she had been a sufferer for a number of years. She was in her usual health until Friday evening and passed away the following day during a deep sleep. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Johnston, of Grant Township, and was united in marriage to Joseph L. Langham, of the same township, on February 1, 1872. Mr. Langham died June 23, 1917. The couple formerly resided in this place, but moved to Washington, D. C. 16 years ago. Mrs. Langham taught school in Indiana and Clearfield counties for a number of years before her marriage. She was an instructor of the Blose school 54 years ago and sent a letter of greeting to the recent reunion held there. She was a member of the Preesbyterian church, was for years an active worker in the W. C. T. U. and Woman's Relief Corps. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Langham Riedel, wife of Rev. R. R. Riedel, of Washington, D. C., and a sister, Mrs. M. B. McCune, of Marion Center. She was a sister-in-law of Judge J. N. Langham, who, accompanied by his wife, attended the funeral in Washington on Wednesday. Burial was made beside the body of her soldier husband in Arlington National Cemetery.[2]
