Kelly and daughter of the late John Johnston and his wife, Martha Allison Johnston. Sallie was the maternal granddaughter of Hugh and Margaret Hope Allison and the paternal granddaughter of George and Catherine Johnston. Sam and Sallie Kelly were the parents of thirteen children.
