Have you seen Agnes McIlwain?

The Huron County Museum's upcoming Migration Stories exhibit will share the histories of families that moved to Huron County between 1839 and the present day. Museum staff are looking for a photograph or portrait of the earliest settler to be featured in the exhibit: Agnes (Johnston) McIlwain (1817-1897) came to Goderich Township from northern Ireland with her husband Samuel in 1839. The couple's first child together, George, was born during the sea voyage to Canada. Agnes was born in 1817. Agnes had eight children with Samuel and six step-children from his previous marriage and farmed at Lot 16, Concession 2. She passed away in 1897.
